Israel Folau set for code switch after failing to report back to Catalans

Israel Folau is failing to respond to Catalans for his second season in Perpignan and has plans to return to rugby union, per Wide World of Sports.

The controversial centre is currently in Australia after returning home during the off-season following his first season with the Dragons.

Folau, 31, played 15 games in Super League last term after Catalans handed him a career lifeline following his sacking by Rugby Australia for homophobic comments posted online.

However, it seems he is unlikely to fulfill the second year of his lucrative deal after ignoring messages from the Dragons ahead of their return to training next week.

“It doesn’t look good,” a source from Catalans told Wide World of Sports. “The feeling is he won’t be back.”

Folau has gained strong interest from French rugby union sides Bayonne and Toulon, with both prepared to pay big money to bring the former Wallabies star back to the 15-man game.

According to WWOS, Catalans now fear they won’t hear from their star centre again, despite seemingly saving his career, with another code switch likely to end Folau’s time in rugby league.
