Is Super League star still set for big transfer?

Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves and Wigan Warriors have all made signings for 2024 whilst Wakefield Trinity, Castleford Tigers, Hull KR and Hull FC have all been involved in immediate transfers.

Wakefield have drafted in Luke Gale, Josh Griffin and David Fifita in their battle to survive which has prompted Castleford to look at their own signings including moves for Kayal Iro and George Burgess,

Hull KR have brought in Brad Schneider for the rest of the season whilst the Black and Whites have of course allowed Josh Griffin to join Wakefeidl.

Now Warrington Wolves have made an immediate signing to lessen the woes of their injury problems in the pack and in response of the loss of Thomas Mikaele and Josh Griffin as the club bring in Jordy Crowther.

Starting his community career at Westgate Wolves before joining Crigglestone All Blacks, Crowther made a real impact in the junior grades, being spotted and signed to the club’s scholarship system, rising through the ranks, eventually being offered a spot in the first team.

The moment he had been dreaming of as a young player had finally arrived, steeped in tradition and ready to write his name into the Trinity history books, becoming the second youngest player to ever play for the club when he made his debut against Wigan in 2014.

Following a few loan spells in the years that followed, Crowther sharpened his skill set, becoming a regular in 2020, celebrating with a fresh new two-year deal in 2021.

However, with his deal up at the end of the season, the club has agreed to release the 26-year-old from his contract as he heads to the Halliwell Jones for the remainder of 2023.

Wakefield Trinity Head Coach, Mark Applegarth, commented on Jordy’s departure, thanking him for his service to the club. “I wish Jordan all the best moving forward with his career.

“Whilst disappointed, I understand his decision and he leaves with the club’s best wishes. He is somebody I have known a long time and it has been pleasing to see him develop into the person he is today.”

This signing has raised a question over what he will be doing beyond this. Crowther has signed until the end of 2023 so is still off contract.

He was expected to join Castleford Tigers in 2024 and thus this move still seems likely.
