Is Super League star set for exit after latest development

We have already seen clubs like Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, Warrington Wolves and Hull KR make signings for 2024 and beyond as they gear up towards the new season whilst still having a focus on the current campaign.

Hull KR have signed former Castleford Tigers and Hull FC target AJ Wallace from Bradford Bulls as well as NRL stars Oliver Gildart and Peta Hiku for next year.

Warrington have signed NRL star Lachlan Fitzgibbon from Newcastle Knights beating Leeds Rhinos to his signature.

Speaking of the Rhinos, they have signed Mickael Goudemand for 2024 and his Catalans teammate is headed to Wigan in the shape of Tiaki Chan as they revamp their pack signing Leeds’ Sam Walters.

But their biggest signing is former Leeds star and Huddersfield Giants hooker Kruise Leeming.

Following this, Wigan have confirmed that hooker Brad O’Neill has signed a new four-year deal with the Club that will see him contracted until the end of 2027 season.

Since making his first team debut in June 2021, the 20-year old has made 37 appearances for Wigan including the 2022 Betfred Challenge Cup Semi Final and Final.

O’Neill came through the Club’s Scholarship and Academy systems after joining from Widnes based Amateur Club Halton Farnworth Hornets.

On signing his new contract, O’Neill said: “I’m really happy to have signed for four years at the Club, I’m really excited about the future and to work with Matt.

“I’ve been at the club a long time already and there’s no other place I’d want to be.”

Warriors Head Coach Matt Peet said: “We are delighted that Brad will be with us for the next four years.

“I love working with him and he brings so much enthusiasm to the group. He is another outstanding product of the local Community game and our Academy system.

“I hope everyone who has been involved with him over the years is very proud.”

But this raises questions about the future of Sam Powell and especially Cade Cust. Cust is out of contract and has shifted from number six to the hooker role.

With Leeming and O’Neill now signed on long term Wigan certainly don’t need four hookers.
