The upcoming International Rugby League Test between England and France has been soured after one of the prospective stars has been banned.

The Match Review Panel made its disciplinary decisions today, and five players ended up being banned after Round 15 of Super League action.

Sione Mata’utia of St Helens was banned for a game, while Elliot Wallis of Huddersfield is in trouble again for his actions in that game, given an automatic one-match ban for his Grade C Dangerous Contact charge.

Emanuel Waine was given the same, while Lachlan Lam of Leigh Leopards was given a fine for Grade B Dangerous Contact but escaped a ban.

The big losers of the week, however, were Catalans, who saw both Michael McIlorum and Arthur Romano given Grade B Dangerous Contact charges and given a one-game ban, while Franck Maria, who got the same charge, was just given a fine.

As it’s an international break this weekend, reserves’ fixtures are scheduled, meaning almost all the players that received bans this week will not miss first-team fixtures due to the now-infamous loophole.

However, Arthur Romano, who would surely have been in line to start for France in Toulouse, received a one-match ban that would see him miss this mid-season rugby league test.

Catalans Dragons could decide to appeal the ban, and could potentially make him available for the game, but chances are France will be lining up without a key man for this one.

Despite this, he has been named in Laurent Frayssinous’ squad to face England.

England and France face each other in a men’s and women’s double-header at the Stade Ernest-Wallon in Toulouse on Saturday 29th June to mark 90 years of the game in France.

The sides met in Warrington last year, as both the men and women for England defeated France 64-0.
