Scotland and Ireland have announced an international rugby league fixture for next month, to be played at Gateshead International Stadium, home of Newcastle Thunder.
The match, which will be contested for world ranking points will take place on Sunday 27th October.
While both nations has confirmed games against the Netherlands before this one, those will be predominantly players from the community game.
This clash will include “available professionals”, meaning a number of Super League stars could feature.
This includes James Bell and Ryan Brierley who were amongst players that played for Scotland at the last Rugby League World Cup, and the likes of Luke Keary, George King and Liam Byrne for Ireland.
For Ireland, this kind of fixture could be key to securing a place as a full IRL member again after being reclassified as an affiliate member, making them ineligible for qualifiers for the next World Cup.

RL Ireland chair, Jim Reynolds, also commented: “It’s great that we can play this second international game for the men, this time using more senior players. We’re very grateful to Scotland Rugby League and Newcastle Thunder for hosting and look forward to a memorable occasion.”
