International joins NRL feeder club after no Super League offers

An international back has joined an NRL feeder club after receiving no offers from Super League clubs following his release.

Former Catalans Dragons youngster and recent London Broncos loanee Ugo Tison has joined Brisbane Broncos’ feeder club Wynnum Manly Seagulls for the 2025 season.

Tison, who has been capped four times for France, will represent the Seagulls in the Queensland Cup after exiting Super League at the end of the 2024 campaign.

The 23-year-old spent the majority of the 2024 Super League season on loan with London Broncos in a bid to earn game time and put himself in the shop window having been told that Catalans would not renew his contract.

That’s something that Tison revealed to Treize Mondial when he spoke about his Catalans’ exit and his move Down Under.

“So the opportunity came up for me to play almost every weekend in the Super League in London,” Tison revealed.

“I first went on loan for a month and then the Dragons told me they wouldn’t extend my contract and London wanted to sign me for the rest of the season. I would have obviously liked to have played as many games for the Dragons, but I took the opportunity and I don’t regret my choice to stay in London.”

Whilst at London, Tison made 19 appearances and featured in a range of positions including in both the halves and at hooker, highlighting his versatility.

That still was not enough for any Super League side to make an offer to him for the 2025 Super League season though which is somewhat surprising given.

He confirmed: “No, I haven’t had any requests from other Super League clubs. After that, I tried to wait until the last minute by making Super XIII clubs wait to see if any offers would come in, but no team called me.”

On leaving Catalans, the club for whom he developed at and debuted back in 2022, Tison said: “I don’t think I have any regrets, I always gave the best of myself during these few years. I remain disappointed by the fact that I was not able to show all my abilities on the field, because it is by playing more and more that you gain confidence and develop as a player.”

He also confirmed that his opportunity with Wynnum came as a result of London Broncos teammate with Jack Campagnolo, who has also moved Down Under, having formerly played for the Seagulls.

Tison revealed: “It was through a friend of mine that I met in London who is great, he asked me how I was and I told him about my plan to go to Australia. The next day, I was in contact with a friend of his, coach of the Wynnum Manly Seagulls, with whom I was able to chat for a while and agreed to go and play there.”
