Hull KR boss Willie Peters will be stressing the importance of consistency after seeing his side turn in their most impressive performance of the season so far. The Robins hit the top of the Super League table on Friday night as they claimed a 22-4 win over Warrington Wolves at the Halliwell Jones Stadium.
It was a dominant performance with and without the ball as Sam Burgess’ side struggled to ask the questions needed to open up KR up, who got over the line on four occasions, through Jesse Sue, Tyrone May, Mikey Lewis and Peta Hiku. As such, Rovers are now in pole position for the League Leaders’ Shield as they bid to end their 39-year wait for major silverware.
There’s still seven Super League rounds to be played, though, and Peters was quick to point out the hard work his Hull KR side still have to do.
“If we lose against Warrington tonight, that sticks until the next time we play them here,” Peters said after the game. “But I’ve told the players just then that it doesn’t matter where you play teams, we need to be consistent.
“I always talk about our best and worst not being far off – and that’s what I’ll talk about through the week next week. If you do that, it doesn’t matter where you play because you put yourselves in a position to win the game.
“I’d like to think there’s a strong belief of what they can do but I’m talking about the near future, not down the track. That’s the most important thing.”
He added: “I was really proud of the players, that was a Hull KR performance. We’ve worked hard to put in a performance like that. Defensively, they stood up. They had a lot thrown at them.
“We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves, there’s a long way to go. But we are certainly happy with winning that game and the performance we put in. There’s no doubt in the back end of the year Warrington are going to be thereabouts.
“There are a lot of games to go. We need to back that performance up, against Castleford, especially defensively. That’s what the very good and the great sides do.”
