Leigh Leopards overcame a late first-half wobble against Hull FC to run out as comfortable 42-12 victors but head coach Adrian Lam provided a worrying injury update after the game.
The home side took a 12-0 lead but tries from Hull FC youngsters Logan Moy and Harvey Barron saw the sides level at the break, despite Leigh’s dominance.
Despite being a man down due to Darnell McIntosh’s sin bin, Leigh Leopards came out fastest in the second half and ran in six tries to secure the win with Kai O’Donnell hauling in four of his own.
After Wigan’s second-half collapse against Leeds Rhinos, it was a testament to the fitness of Leigh that they managed to improve in the later stages of the game. However, there has been a fitness update on one of the Leopards’ injured stars and it’s not positive news.
Leigh Leopards dealt injury blow
Matt Moylan was a big absentee for the clash against Hull FC with the Australian playmaker hauled off against Wigan Warriors on Tuesday night. Adrian Lam confirmed that Moylan had suffered a rib injury and therefore would miss out against Hull.
However, Lam has now confirmed that the club have learned Moylan’s injury is worse than they had expected and therefore their star signing could be out for ‘longer than anticipated’.
Speaking post-game, the Leigh Leopards boss revealed: “The position of his rib cartilage is in a bad spot really. We found that out this week so it may be longer than what we anticipated.
“We were hoping for it (his return) to be Salford but it looks like it may not be.”
Adrian Lam confirms Lachlan Lam’s Leigh Leopards future
Moylan has played in the halves but also at full-back throughout the campaign and with Gaz O’Brien missing yesterday, it meant Zak Hardaker reverted to full-back and the future Hull FC man drew praise from his coach.
Lam also offered an injury update on O’Brien with Leigh looking likely to have a clean bill of health barring Moylan for their Magic Weekend clash with Salford Red Devils.
“Zak did some good stuff today and that’s what he’s capable of doing. He’s played there for a long time at full-back. It was good to have Tom Amone back and we’ll get Gaz O’Brien back next week so we get some players back.
“That’s not going to win us the game, but it’ll certainly give us a little bit more movement, a little bit more cohesion that we haven’t had over the last three weeks.”
