Injury Corner: Leeds Rhinos, Wigan Warriors, St Helens and Salford Red Devils sweating over big injury blows

Well, that’s the first round of the Super League play-offs done and dusted, and what a weird and wonderful two days it was!

All eyes turned to the Stade Gilbert Brutus on Friday night as the Catalans Dragons arrived home under a hail of French passion, ready to do battle against the Leeds Rhinos who had qualified for the play-offs after a nervy win over the Castleford Tigers last weekend.

That game at Headingley saw Rohan Smith’s men rack up 14-8 win as Aidan Sezer proved to be the match-winner with a last-minute try.

As it was, in the south of France, it was Liam Sutcliffe that proved to be just the tonic that Leeds needed to get over the line against an ill-disciplined Catalans side. Steve McNamara’s men were given four cards – three of them yellow and one of them red – as the French side simply imploded against an in-control Rhinos, who eventually ran out 20-10 winners.

Wind the clock forward to Saturday lunchtime and it was Huddersfield Giants’ turn to host the Salford Red Devils at the John Smith’s Stadium in front of a hardy travelling support.

And, the Red Devils were full value for their 28-0 win, destroying Ian Watson’s men in the opening 20 minutes as they have done so often to other Super League teams.

Superb defence combined with a lacklustre Huddersfield attack ensured Paul Rowley’s side came home with a clean sheet, storming into the semi-finals of the play-offs with relative ease.

But, just who will the play-off teams be sweating over as we head into the final stages of the season?
