Injured Wakefield Trinity star confirms ‘good news’ ahead of play-off clash

Wakefield Trinity forward Caleb Hamlin-Uele has confirmed that he received ‘good news’ from the specialist this week regarding the knee injury that threatens to rule him out of the Super League play-offs.

Hamlin-Uele missed out on Wakefield’s play-off game last year through injury and there’s a fear that he could miss out again as a result of the knee injury that ruled him out in round 27.

The England-eligible forward was the only Wakefield Trinity player selected to the Super League Dream Team and at Monday’s Dream Team launch, he spoke to BBC Radio Leeds where the big focus was on his fitness.

Asked if he will be playing on Friday night against Leigh, Hamlin-Uele said: “I’ll see how I get through this week of training and, God willing, hopefully. That’s the plan.”

Wakefield Trinity a ‘hard team to beat’ as prop talks Grand Final hopes

As mentioned, the prop missed the play-offs last year with Wakefield crashing out on the road to Leigh in a heavy defeat, but he underlined just how important it would be for him to take the field on Friday at the DIY Kitchens Stadium.

He said: “This will be my first finals series and there’s nothing more that I want to do than be with my brothers on that field, trying to get us to Old Trafford. It would mean the world to me to be on that field.”

Daryl Powell had confirmed that both Hamlin-Uele (knee) and Ky Rodwell (shoulder) would see specialists this week and on that meeting, the Dream Team prop said: “It was good news. God willing, I’m on that field on Friday.”

As for Trinity’s chances in the play-offs and whether they can make it to Old Trafford in just over two weeks time, he kept his cards close to his chest.

“We let our actions do a lot of the talking and I think a lot of people have seen what we can do and what we’re capable of, so we’ll be a hard team to beat for anyone.”
