Important update on St Helens star Jonny Lomax following his ruptured bicep ahead of Hull FC clash

St Helens

St Helens assistant coach Paul Wellens took over media duties for the Merseyside club yesterday in Kristian Woolf’s absence.

And, Wellens revealed just how strong and resilient halfback Jonny Lomax is to have been able to play against Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup semi-final last weekend, as well as giving an update on Welsh flyer Regan Grace.

“Jonny has come through not too bad, obviously he’s a little bit sore when you sustain that injury and put yourself in to play,” Wellens told Saints TV.

“But he’s good and ready to go again – he’s a resilient lad and he loves playing for this club.

“Regan is close, he is finishing a few bits with the physio and he will return next week to train with a vision to play against Warrington.”

Wellens was also full of praise for the new combination in the St Helens spine.

“Jack Welsby, Ben Davies and James Roby are a new combination.

“We’ve had some disruption there but I thought in periods they gelled very nicely at the weekend – we just need to be more consistent.”

Saints will go up against Hull FC on Friday night and Wellens knows the danger posed by Hull FC.

“I like the way they are developing under Brett Hodgson – they are a very dangerous outfit.”
