IMG rankings in full as Wakefield Trinity promoted and nine secure Grade A status

Wakefield Trinity have been promoted to Super League after achieving a Grade A in the IMG’s gradings for the 2025 season. The West Yorkshire outfit, who won a treble this season, were relegated from the top flight last year but they are one of nine clubs to achieve the top grade possible.

Trinity have earned a score of 15.09, putting them eighth in the list of clubs. St Helens are the side who earned the highest score across the game, with the Saints achieving a score of 17.02. That means that despite underperforming on the field, St Helens have made up over 0.5 points off the field to put them on top of the pile.

Wigan Warriors, who won a quadruple, are just second in the gradings with a score of 16.91, while Leeds Rhinos’ poor form over two straight seasons has seen them fall from first to third with a score of 16.84.

Warrington Wolves (16.27), Hull KR (15.97) and Catalans Dragons (15.52) also retain their A grading, while Leigh Leopards (15.13) and Castleford Tigers (15.02) have made the grade for the first time.

There will be just three Grade B clubs in Super League next season, with Hull FC undoubtedly the biggest losers in IMG’s gradings. The Black and Whites secured a Grade A last season, but they have slipped into Grade B this season with their on-field performance hurting them significantly.

They’ve dropped just over 0.5 from last season, while Huddersfield Giants (14.48) and Salford Red Devils (13.97) are the other Grade B sides.

Toulouse Olympique are the closest to Super League with a score of 13.58, while London Broncos have climbed up 24th to 14th in the rankings by increasing their score from 8.07 to 12.65.

Keighley Cougars are the biggest risers across the gradings and now sit 19th with a score of 9.02, having sat 30th last season. Overall 20 of the 35 clubs improved their score.

This is not sustainable. If grade A means a guaranteed SL place, then how long before we have 15 or 16 teams at grade A??
So – a 16 team SL is potentially two or three seasons away.
Longer term, could be even more.
    I think not. .
