On Friday night we saw some big results across Super League. Wakefield Trinity thrashed Salford Red Devils to claim only their second win of the season and make it back to back home wins after defeating Leeds Rhinos.
This puts the pressure on Castleford Tigers with now just four points between the two teams at the bottom of Super League.
The Tigers lost to St Helens 22-0 as Wigan Warriors won 22-6 against Huddersfield Giants in important wins for last year’s top two.
Speaking of the top two, in the Sky game Leigh Leopards battered Hull KR to claim their place in the top two.
As the Sky game this was the only game of the day with a video referee.
The video referee has been a common topic in Super League this year.
But oddly often in games without one.
This is because it is often suggested every game should have one and an incident from Friday night shows this according to former official Richard Silverwood who claimed Jack Welsby’s try just before halftime against Castleford should have been disallowed and would have been if referred to a video referee.
He said on social media: “I think if that goes to a VR it gets disallowed. Percival must go through the line and not stop in the line.
“Ahead of the ball and possibly blocks Sutcliffe. Yes Sutcliffe doesn’t push hard enough across but a VR doesn’t judge ifs and maybes, he is in his way so obstruction.”
