Penrith Panthers CEO Brian Fletcher has had to deal with a disturbing death threat recently.
Fletcher arrived at his desk one more to find a mysterious and threatening package.
Fletcher would later reveal that “written on the bag was: ‘I’m a serial killer, Rest In Peace.'”
He would add “Those words affected me. That made me nervous.”
The Daily Telegraph meanwhile revealed that he spent a week at home as the police investigated going on to conclude that the same person had threatened a number of other high profile people in Sydney.
“The police took the envelope and went away, I had a week away from work and worked from home on advice,” Fletcher told the Daily Telegraph.
“I didn’t want to put anyone else in danger in case it was something drastic. I was quite OK, I didn’t go out that much.
“The envelope was addressed to Panthers so I felt comfortable that they didn’t know my home address.”
Fletcher is back working day to day after the incident but it has undoubtedly had a profound effect on him.
He will be hoping that his side can find some rhythm after an uncharacteristically slow start to the season after losing the World Club Challenge 13-12 to St Helens prior to losing by the same score against Brisbane Broncos in the first round of the NRL.
They did beat South Sydney last week 16-10.
