Ian Watson reveals Luke Yates had significant offers from three other clubs

Luke Yates finally ended speculation about a potential move away from Huddersfield by signing a new contract earlier this morning.

It is a massive coup for the Giants and head coach Ian Watson, who revealed that there were three significant offers from NRL clubs to pin Yates down to a contract Down Under.

For Watson, though, there was never really a doubt that the Australian forward would sign.

“It’s huge for us, there was quite a lot of interest in him especially from overseas,” Watson said.

“Luke has been over here for two years and he feels really happy where he is at at this time both on field and off field – he wants to be part of a team that builds a legacy.

“I never thought he was going to go, I know where he is in his personal life and head space.

“There was serious interest from the NRL which, if you look at his performances this year, he should be in the dream team – not only does he make tackle after tackle he makes hundreds of metres a game.”
