Ian Watson reveals heart warming story behind Huddersfield Giants prop’s performance

Yesterday Ian Watson’s Huddersfield side rose from the dead in the second half to defeat Hull FC 22-16.

The Giants trailed 10-0 at the break after tries from Jack Walker and Connor Wynne for the Black and Whites.

In the second half, the Giants again fell 10 points behind as Hull FC made it 16-6 despite Will Smith’s yellow card.

But soon the comeback was well and truly on and completed by a Danny Levi try which was converted by Will Pryce to give the Giants the lead at 18-16 before Levi got a second to complete a 22-16 win.

One man who had to produce a kind of comeback was Jack Ashworth who Ian Watson revealed was throwing up at halftime.

The prop had a baby the day before the game and was sick due to caffeine overload.

After the game Watson revealed all the details in a comical moment within the press conference captured by BBC Sport West Yorkshire.

“He was being sick at halftime,” Watson said, “He had a baby yesterday so he’s not had much sleep and been on quite a lot of caffeine so I think he’s had too much caffeine and was throwing up in the changing rooms. He’s all good.

“It’s one of those things. He’s played probably on adrenaline. He had a great game for us.

“Might be a couple of nights before he gets sleeping.”
