Ian Watson responds to job speculation

There has been speculation from fans about Ian Watson’s future as Huddersfield Giants struggle for a win.

Watson responded to this after the Giants’ defeat to Warrington Wolves on Sky Sports:

“Of course you do and it’s not nice. Some people say they fall out of love with the game, I could never, I love the game and my job but the key thing is that it is a challenge and you have to respond to it and it is a rollercoaster.”

He also assessed what went wrong:

“Yeah it was better. We know we’re a decent group and if we do the right things like we did in the second half when we started turning the ball over deep and competing for kicks then we can get field position and we will score points on the back of that.

“We didn’t finish our sets well consistently enough and it is inconsistencies that will cost you.”

He also spoke about a key moment at the start of the second half as the Giants squandered an attacking set before Warrington scored:

“Yeah, yeah, we didn’t need to score there. We spoke about not panicking and trying to grind it out and make them do some defending on their own goal line.

“That first tackle there let them off the hook and then they went down the other end and scored.

“It is what kills you.”

Asked about Huddersfield’s next games, Watson said:

“I’m not bothered by who we are playing, we just need to start performing.

“We know if we start to get our team out there and get consistent performances and we will be alright at the end of the year.”
