Last year Huddersfield Giants were left heart broken after defeat by Wigan Warriors in the Challenge Cup Final, a game that Ian Watson felt they should have won.
It was a late try from Liam Marshall that won the game after a great kick to the corner but Huddersfield had dominated a lot of the game which was clouded by some controversial calls.
This time around though the Giants exited the cup at the first hurdle against Salford Red Devils.
Wigan got to the semi-finals but lost to Hull KR setting up a final against Leigh Leopards, teh first cup final without Leeds Rhinos, Warrington Wolves, St Helens or Wigan since 1986.
No doubt Ian Watson wishes his side were there but he gave his opinion on who would win the Challenge Cup Final tipping Leigh to win.
He explained: ” I just think, you kind of go through their team, and at the start of the year, I said, everyone was talking about Leigh and saying, where will they finish? I thought they would play the finish in the playoffs or I’ll be competing in around there.
“It’s the level of player that they’ve got and the quality of player. They’ve probably got two of the best players in the competition in Lachlan Lam and John Asiata, by far, who are wo great players.
“Then you put on the back of that, you put people like Ricky Leutele, Zak Hardaker, Josh Charnley, the kind of proven winners.
“They’ve all been in and around championship winning teams, Challenge Cup Final winning teams, that level of player.
“Zak Hardaker made a huge, huge difference to Leeds last year when he went to Leeds and then Leeds got to a Grand Final at the back end of it.
“It’s a level of player that you can account for and I just think Leigh have got more of them guys in their ranks potentially than what Hull KR have got to be fair.
“I think it’ll be a great game and I think it will be close but I just think Leigh have the edge because of people like Lachlan Lam and John Asiata.”
