Huddersfield Giants were able to overcome Wakefield Trinity 14-12 at Belle Vue tonight.
It was an incredible effort from Ian Watson’s men who have been ravaged by the flu this week and he spoke about being one of the best ones in 2022.
“I think it was one of the best ones, it’s a huge win especially with some of the things that have gone on,” Watson said.
“Personnel also pulled out and the flu going through the camp – we didn’t feel we did ourselves justice last week.
“I got a phone call saying there were five payers struggling with two who were not expected to get through the warm up and as we got to the training area before we set off Jez (Jermaine McGillvary) was in no fit state.
“He couldn’t be on the coach and we didn’t want to take anymore people out.
“There was one player who was Joe Greenwood who wasn’t expected to get through the warm up.”
Watson also revealed that there was almost a bizarre change in halfback.
“Oliver Russell didn’t train, Jake Wardle ran at 6 earlier in the week, but luckily he was in the squad and Jez went down.”
