Ian Watson explains shock Jake Connor dropping

Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants meet this week.

Huddersfield Giants were thumped by Super League and World Champions St Helens 48-6 despite taking a 6-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Warrington Wolves were beaten by Hull FC despite leading 12-0.

The Wolves subsequently ended the week no longer in top spot as they continue to struggle for consistency after an eight game winning run ended.

They have lost the last two and will hope to turn things around against Huddersfield live on Sky Sports tonight.

When the team news came in there was a big decision.

The big news is that Jake Connor has been dropped entirely and is the 18th man.

Tui Lolohea is also dropped to the bench as Will Pryce moves to fullback. Olly Russell returns to start in the halves.

Leroy Cudjoe starts in the backrow for the Giants again as new signing Adam Milner starts on the bench.

Ian Watson has now explained the decision.

“They just give us a consistency level around the spine,” Watson said on Sky Sports of Will Pryce and Olly Russell who replaced Jake Connor and Tui Lolohea.

“They also bring us a fitness level which is something we felt we needed.

“There too many individual honours from certain people that cost us last week and that has been the case a lot this season.”

He also said: “We are looking for a team performance.”
