Ian Watson confirms star player will not be joining Super League rivals

Wakefield Trinity are again doing it tough at the moment especially after the loss of star fullback Max Jowitt.

There has been some suggestion that to fill this void they would try and sign Huddersfield Giants star Ash Golding who has been acting as a substitute nine recently for the Giants but is naturally a fullback as seen in his days at Leeds Rhinos.

However, speaking today, Ian Watson has shut down the rumours that Golding could join their Super League rivals:

“Ash is staying with us. He brings energy and life to our place, he’s not going anywhere. He can stay here and keep doing it for us.

“The one thing you love about Ash is that everyday he turns up with a smile on his face and he’s ready to go all the time. He’s a bundle of energy and he fits out team at the moment.

“When he came on against Warrington I thought he was lively. It doesn’t matter when you put him on he’s always full of energy and ready to run so he’s not going anywhere.”

The Giants do have one of the biggest squads in Super League and Watson was asked if any of his players were likely to leave the club even if on loan.

He said: “We’ve had a little chat about that with a few of the players who are not playing at the moment and saying that we need to get into the season first and let it unfold.

“We’ve had a chat with one or two that we might do something in the next week with them, just to make sure they can get a few extra games under their belt because they’d either missed some of the pre-season or missed the pre-season games through one reason or another.

“That might be a way to tick a box and get them ready, if that’s in Super League then it’s in Super League. If it’s Championship then it’s Championship. I would say all the boys had a good hit out last week in our reserves team and it was good for them to play all together. There’s a few guys who stood up in there who pushed themselves towards the first team.”
