Ian Watson confirms new signing will debut against Wigan Warriors

Today Ian Watson has confirmed that new signing Harry Rushton will make his Huddersfield Giants debut against former club Wigan Warriors.

Rushton joined the Giants from NRL side Canberra Raiders at the end of 2022 and has played reserves grade for the Giants.

He represented Ireland in the World Cup.

“Yeah he is going to make his debut this week,” Watson said.

“I kind of wanted to get him playing for a while now. I saw him play against the reserves last week and he was way above that level, as you would expect from him and his background.

“It’s funny that Wigan is going to be his first game for his new club at Huddersfield. He knows all what they’re about it and how they like to play.

“He’s excited to play and we’re excited to see him play. He just needs to do what he does best and one of them things is work ethic.”

Watson spoke highly of his potential and explained why it has taken till Round Five for him to debut:

“He’s only a young man, he has big potential. He wanted to come to Huddersfield because he wanted to be a part of something from the beginning and build a legacy like we have spoken about.

“You knew he had to patient especially after suffering a bit of a niggle in pre-season.

“But it is exciting for me, for him and for Huddersfield to be able to see him.

“He’s not played many games but if you look at his performances in the NRL he performed really well.”
