“I went over there bought into their culture” – Greg Inglis opens up on Warrington Wolves spell

During Lockdown in 2020, Warrington Wolves announced one of the biggest signings in Super League history when they confirmed that Greg Inglis would be coming out of retirement to join them for the 2021 campaign.

Despite scoring on debut on Hull KR, it was always a rocky road for the fullback / centre after he picked up an injury in pre-season before more injuries and Warrington’s move for George Williams culminated in his retirement as he took a behind the scenes position at the club until the end of the year.

This week speaking to World Wide of Sports, Inglis has opened up on his time in Super League.

“It was quite a great experience to be honest,” Inglis said, “I went over there, bought into their culture but I did only get three games in. I did one hamstring in the pre-season running around and then did the second which I almost had to get an operation for.

“I stayed over there being around the club did a bit of traveling as well. I came back here in November, started up my own academy which gives people talks and talks about mental health and my own experiences and what I’ve been through.”

After this, he went onto go more in depth about his academy and the role it plays in young people’s lives: “Go round schools and communities, wherever it’s needed. It gives me so much joy.

“It’s more mental health and breaking down the stigma of mental health and that it’s okay to talk about it. I talk about what I went through as a rugby league player but more about when I retired. I lost my consistency when I finished

“It’s me I strip it all back, I’m not rich and famous, I’m normal I work a 9-5 job. End of the day, take the limelight away I have all the same struggles.”
