“I was bitterly disappointed” – Richard Marshall responds to Leigh defeat

Today, Leigh claimed their first win of the season. It came at the expense of Salford which unsurprisingly left Head Coach Richard Marshall disappointed especially as he believed his sides ill-discipline simply aided the Centurions on their way to the win.

Despite his disappointment at his own team, to Marshall’s credit he praised Leigh for their performance before turning to his own charges: “We must congratulate Leigh on their efforts. They were always going to win a game this season and unfortunately it was against us.”

Nonetheless, he felt compelled to question his side’s discipline: “I was bitterly disappointed with our performance and the penalties we gave away. Our discipline defensively was awful.”

He then turned to Centurions’ key player on the day as well as Leigh’s fantastic crowd: “The Leigh crowd really got behind their team and I thought Joe Mellor led them around the pitch really well and put us in corners.”
