“I thought Brett Hodgson was a lot, lot smarter than this” – how social media reacted to Kane Evans signing for Hull FC

The news last night finally broke that Kane Evans would be joining Hull FC ahead of the 2022 Super League season.

The Fijian international signed on a two-year deal and also had stints in the NRL with Sydney Roosters and Parramatta Eels, before joining the New Zealand Warriors.

But, just how did social media react to the news?

One Hull FC fan hailed the club’s recruitment ahead of the new season.

However, another FC supporter did not agree with the signing.

Yet, the mainstream opinion was one of excitement.

Another duo can’t wait to see him in action.

However, some people continued to disagree with the move.

Some questioned his disciplinary record.

One Hull supporter gave an impassioned defence of Evans.

Another can’t wait to see him in action.

However, another fan did question his disciplinary record.

Even a Salford fan couldn’t help but jump on the disciplinary bandwagon.

Another Black and Whites supporter referenced just how lonely Chris Satae was up front in 2021 and praised the Evans signing.

One fan was caught in two minds, though.

If you look at https://www.nrl.com/players/nrl-premiership/warriors/kane-evans/ you’ll see that at in his stints at the Roosters and the Eels he made about 500 metres per season in post-contact metres. This season, only 388 (for the Warriors). His tackle breaks were down too. He may be only 29, but his stats show he is over the hill, carrying long term injuries which reduce his effectiveness, or just not trying.

If Hull got him cheap then maybe it was a sensible buy, but I hope they went into this with their eyes open.
