“I can’t speak” – Legendary commentators set to meet in the aftermath of iconic sporting crossover

It was reported earlier that the World’s Darts Championship winner, Michael Smith, had his dream come true as he attended St Helens’ Totally Wicked Stadium alongside players of both the men and women’s team to lift aloft their titles in the so-called ‘Trophy Town’.

Smith is a huge rugby league fan and an avid supporter of his local St Helens and it was during his incredible win that one of the most iconic lines of rugby league commentary made a reappearance.

Wayne Mardle uttered those famous words, “I can’t speak”, as he commentated which has now prompted Mardle to reach out to meet the original orator, Mick Morgan, and Castleford Tigers have obliged as they promise to arrange a meeting.

In an unprecedented leg of darts Smith held his nerve to complete the perfect leg, a nine-darter, in response to his opponent, Netherland’s Michael Van Gerwen, falling one dart short of the same feat.

The commentary is one of those that doesn’t read as well as it’s heard but you’re certainly reading that in the voice of the legendary Mick Morgan, who immortalised those words during a Castleford Tigers game when they met Wigan long before Super League calling for a “dirty get” to be sent off and beinginfuriated by the fact only a yellow card was brandished.

This resulted in the now famous line “I can’t speak” and the video below has nearly a million views as consequence.

Mardle also uttered those words and now the Tigers are arranging for the pair to meet and allow Mardle to give Morgan the credit he deserves.
