Hull KR youngster latest to join lower league rebuild

Dewsbury Rams are headed to the Betfred League 1 in 2023 after a disappointing 2022 season which resulted in a frustrating relegation from the Championship.

They are undergoing something of a rebuild going into 2023 as they hope to bounce straight back to the second tier and yesterday confirmed the signing of 1895 Cup winner Joe Summers from Hunslet after spells at Featherstone and Castleford Tigers.

Now their latest signing is another former Super League youngster in the shape of former Hull KR youngster Tom Wilkinson.

The second-row has starred for the Robins’ academy and reserves as well as enjoying loan spells with Dewsbury’s Championship rivals and the other side relegated from the league Workington Town along with Midlands Hurricanes in League 1.

He impressively scored four tries in nine games over these loan spells.

The Rams will announce another signing tomorrow as they continue their rebuild but fans should be excited at the arrival of the young backrow with real potential.

On the move, he told the Rams’ website: “I’m glad to have signed for 2023 for the Rams. I’m looking forward to meeting the boys and ripping in for pre-season.”

Head Coach Liam Finn added: “Tom is a player who comes highly recommended. Looking to continue his development and make himself a regular in our seventeen with his work ethic and strong line running.”
