Hull KR Women make Pre-Season record

On Monday evening a record 100 women and girls turned out for pre-season and trials at the KCOM Craven Park.

Women and girls from all over Hull and its surrounding areas returned and trailed for a chance to wear the famous red and white shirt.

The club’s consistent ethos of women’s and girl’s rugby has been withheld, retention is high and the recruitment drive has proven successful. The training pitches were a flush in a sea of red as the girls set out to show exactly what they are made of.

Training started for the girl’s section at 6pm with the under 12’s, 14s’ and 16’s. A total of 60 girls were put through both a physical and challenging session. I watched the coaches stick to their winning format and each girl was determined and focussed for the upcoming season.

The open age team started at 7pm, with 30 women dressed in unison and trained the winter months away. Each showed that their off-season wasn’t a lazy time as assistant coach Joe Wardill had prepared them with his off-season programmes.

The first training session was arduous. The women were put through their paces and at times the sheer physicality could be seen on their faces. However all 30 proved their willingness and determination to start the season with an almighty bang.

Head Coach Ben Parker said: “I’m was overwhelmed with the attendance and impressed by the recruitment drive, Hull KR women’s and girls is growing stronger each season, we are sticking with our initial plan and look forward to the women and girls reaching their fullest potential’

Hull KR’s intentions of reaching the Women’s Super League look very promising.
