After promising starts to 2022, things have stalled for both Hull clubs recently.
The Black and Whites ravaged by injury and on the back of parting company with halfback Josh Reynolds were battered by Leeds last week at home no less in a game that resulted in three suspensions.
As for Hull KR, they’ve lost seven of the last eight and have been on a downward spiral since Tony Smith shocked the rugby league world announcing he’d leave at the end of the year. Well after a shock defeat against Toulouse, the Robins pulled the trigger on Smith early meaning Super League legend Danny McGuire’s first game in charge as a coach will be a Hull derby.
For Hull KR, Ethan Ryan and Jimmy Keinhorst make the squad despite injury scares last week whilst Matty Storton is unable to play after dislocating a toe. Ryan Hall misses out through a rib cartilage issue but Lachlan Coote is named in the squad.
Three players will miss the game for Hull through suspension in forwards Kane Evans, Jordan Johnstone and Ligi Sao. This will limit their usual forward power. The loss of Cam Scott to injury is also another blow. However, they do have three signings in their squad in Jack Walker, Josh Simm and Ellis Longstaff whilst skipper Luke Gale returns.
Match Preview – Key Battles:
Mikey Lewis vs Joe Lovodua: Both Lovodua and Lewis are livewires and will both be in the halves. Either one of them could win this game in an instant with a piece of magic.
Matt Parcell vs Danny Houghton: These two are both leaders and great organisers for their team’s attack in very different and unique ways. Their clash of styles will be interesting here.
Where the game will be won and lost:
Even when things are rosy for both clubs, a game between the two of them is a minefield for predictions and wild but with everything going on at both clubs and the absentees it will be even more so and a brilliant way to end the Magic Weekend.
Score Prediction: Hull KR 16-12 Hull FC
