Hull KR are a club firmly on the up and they’ve affirmed that by announcing that they will their 2025 pre-season on tour to Europe with a historic game set for Amsterdam.
Pre-season games are a great time for fans to feed their rugby league itch with the matches often kicking off the new year and allowing fans to see new shirts, new signings and old friends in the stands.
Traditionally it also gives fans chance to return to their home stadium but that won’t be the case for at least one of the pre-season games for Hull KR in 2025. That’s because they’ve confirmed that they’re going on tour and heading to Amsterdam to take on York Knights.
Hull KR and York Knights will kick off the 2025 RugbyLeague.com Amsterdam Challenge on January 25th 2025, that game set to spearhead another example of the Robins taking rugby league on the road in their global expansion project.
Only last month, Hull KR confirmed that they had announced a historic partnership with Port Moresby Vipers in Papua New Guinea, a partnership that will see PNG talents fly to the UK to develop further.

Hull KR confirmed the news of their upcoming trip to Amsterdam via their club website where they shared a statement on the historic match.
It read: “Hull KR are excited to launch the 2025 RugbyLeague.com Amsterdam Challenge which will see us take on the York RLFC Knights in the Netherlands on Saturday 25th January 2025, and spearhead another global expansion project.
“The ground-breaking event will see the best of the Betfred Super League and Championship go head-to-head, as preparations ramp up for the 2025 season, in one of the world’s best weekend destinations, Amsterdam.”
Netherlands have a growing passion for rugby league and the game will take place at the NRCA Stadium which has recently sold out hosting ECPR Challenge Cup games.
The Robins’ Chief Executive, Paul Lakin said: “This is an exciting day for the club as we continue our Global Robins journey. Last month we announced a historic partnership with the Port Moresby Vipers in Papua New Guinea, and today we announce our next international venture.
“After working with the Netherlands National Rugby League Governing body in the community for some time, we are delighted to extend our partnership to take the club on tour to play a game in Amsterdam in January 2025.”
With Hull being a port city, the travel is actually far easier than it would be for Robins fans to have made the away trip to London this weekend. Whilst the ferry does take twice as long, it’s arguably a far less taxing journey than the M1, as many drivers would attest.
Paul Lakin noted that: “With direct transport links to Amsterdam and Rotterdam, and a long history of trading with the docks of Hull, the great country of the Netherlands are almost neighbours for us, with Amsterdam being a shorter distance away from East Hull in miles than Aberdeen or Devon, as the crow flies.”
The club also confirmed details of how fans can book on to the trip with Catalans Sports Tours, who many fans will have used on Super League away days, being selected as the official travel partner.
