Matty Storton has spoken about the different ways teams defend in Super League.
The Hull KR forward is a top forward in a very impressive and reinforced pack at Hull KR which is where a lot of the defending is done.
The loose-forward / prop is in a star studded pack that is looking to kick on in 2023 after a difficult season last year.
They were able to steal their way to a win over Wigan in Round One, and thus gave his insight on them as well as the Leeds Rhinos defence which he explained is “passive.”
This came on the Show Me the Money TV YouTube Channel as he said: “Different teams defend differently. We played Leeds last week and they’re quite passive, so you can get good metres after contact.
“Obviously Wigan they chop from inside really well so you have to change your carry up to get a quick play the ball.
“I’ve had to work hard this pre-season on getting my bumpers up and creating space for quick play the balls.
“I’ve been watching Jesse Sue and how he creates space, it’s a big thing that I’m trying to get into my game at the moment.”
Interestingly, he also gave some insight into the lack of communication from IMG:
“I don’t think I’ve heard of a player who knows what’s going on.
“I like to know what’s going on because it’s your job isn’t it?”
A worry for Super League players? Perhaps.
