Hull KR star opens up on contract situation and identifies youngster who has impressed him in pre-season

Shaun Kenny-Dowall was again confirmed as Hull KR captain in 2023 at a fan event.

The former Sydney Roosters centre signed an extension to stay at the club last year which prompted the question, will he do the same again in 2023?

“We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it,” he said, “There’s still a lot of rugby to come before that but I’ll take this year as it comes then I’ll look at it next October and make my decision.’

He’s certainly enjoying life under new coach Willie Peters however:

“We’ve enjoyed it so far. We’ve bought into what Willie’s brought over and the new systems. We’re into week 5 now and I think it’s progressing well. We’ve been big on mindset and improving our individual performances. We’ve been working on reducing injuries in the season so we’re having massages three times a week, looking after our bodies and taking our rehab to a new level.”

Lastly, when asked to pick out the players who have impressed him in pre-season, he picked out one of Hull KR’s top stars and an impressive youngster: “Elliot Minchella won trainer of the week for training the house down last week so we’ve had a few weeks of that. Jack Potter won it a few weeks ago and he’s been really good since he joined us full time for pre-season. He’s only about 70kg but he’s in there in the wrestle room with the big boys and his attitude has been great since he came in.”
