Hull KR star Mikey Lewis ‘in the groove’ as Man of Steel previews ‘massive’ Hull FC clash

Hull KR star Mikey Lewis celebrates a try

After another man-of-the-match performance from the reigning Man of Steel, Hull KR star Mikey Lewis has a lot to smile about right now.

He terrorised the Huddersfield Giants defence and grabbed a hat-trick of tries in Rovers’ 50-4 victory.

After head coach Willie Peters called him a game-changer in his post-match interview, Lewis said he’s only just starting to find his feet in 2025.

He said: “Being in the game, I want to do that every week and I’ve been getting in my groove a little bit in the last two weeks now.

“With my running game, I want to be on the ball as much as possible and today I did that.”

He admitted that their first-half performance wasn’t up to their usual standards but they more than turned it around in the second, scoring 34 unanswered points.

He added: “Especially that second half, it’s good to score those points but we’ve still got things we need to work on in our defence. That first half wasn’t us if we’re being honest, but we put the points on the scoreboard in the second half so we’re happy.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying we’re awful, it’s just the technical side. We were honest with ourselves at halftime and I feel like we put a performance out there in the second half and that will kick us on for the rest of the year now.”

Lewis on if Hull KR can become a champion team in 2025

The Hull KR halfback discussed if his team can go all the way this year but like his head coach, he said they’re remaining focused on the next game instead of looking too far ahead.

He said: “As we say, every week’s a big week for us. We take it game by game, we came here for a job, we’ve got that done now and we’ll recover.

“We’ve got a quick turnaround on Saturday for a massive performance in the Challenge Cup and we’ll be ready for that.

“We’ve got the quality, we’re all in every week and we’ve got to be performing consistently every week and that’s what we want to do.

“I feel like this group, there’s spirit and the connection that we’ve got is something that I haven’t experienced. Everyone’s loving their time and you can see that coming into training every week.”
