Hull KR star man pens new deal amid Willie Peters’ best still to come statement

Hull KR have secured the future of centre Oliver Gildart as they prepare for the start of the 2026 Super League season.

Gildart’s contract was due to expire at the end of the upcoming season but he has now put pen to paper on a two-year deal that will see him stick around at Craven Park until the end of the 2028 campaign.

The 29-year-old missed a chunk of last season with a knee injury, but he returned to action in time to play a key role in helping the Robins secure an historic treble, with his brace in the play-off semi-finals sending KR to the Super League Grand Final.

Since signing for Rovers ahead of the 2024 season after a stint in the NRL, Gildart has made 32 appearances for the club with 13 tries coming along the way with the partnership he has built up with his former Wigan Warriors teammate on the edge proving particularly fruitful last season.

“I’m really happy,” Gildart said on his new KR deal. “I’ve really enjoyed living here the last couple of years. The rugby side – I couldn’t ask for any better last year.

“I think it’s special. As I’ve got a little older, I didn’t think I’d ever get to play with Budgie (Burgess) again. Coming to Hull KR has reignited the spark, and we’ve created memories for life with this group. I’m over the moon to extend, and I’m looking forward to the next few years.”

Head coach Willie Peters was equally pleased to retain one of his key backs: “I think Gilly has been really strong for us the last two seasons. He’s had unfortunate long-term injuries in both seasons, but we know what Gilly is capable of.

“He showed what he is capable of in the Grand Final. Gilly’s form was outstanding before he got injured last year.

“I saw a change of mindset in him last year to go after training, which transferred into some strong performances in his game. He really bought into what we’re about at Hull KR.

“Providing Gilly stays mentally zoned in, I believe his best years are still ahead of him.”
