Hull KR star claims he was ‘robbed in Warrington’ after controversial decision

Hull KR Willie Peters Super League

Hull KR defeated Warrington Wolves 22-4 last night to go atop the Super League table for the first time since 2009 as they put in a stellar performance to beat Sam Burgess’ side.

Willie Peters’ men scored two tries either side of half-time and played the better rugby for almost all of the 80 minutes, barring a slow start to the second half during which their hosts Warrington scored.

It was a true statement of intent from Hull KR and it’s rightly seen them deemed contenders by plenty including fans and pundits alike. As for Warrington Wolves, Sam Burgess put the loss down to Hull KR simply being better but going back-to-back against St Helens and Wigan Warriors before facing the Robins will have surely strained them physically and mentally.

A plus for the Wire is that they have a far easier run in with two games against bottom-of-the-table London Broncos and just one more game against the current top six, whereas Hull KR face four of the current top six as well as challengers Leeds Rhinos and Leigh Leopards.

Despite the impressive win last night, there is one Hull KR player who isn’t too happy and he’s taken to social media to say so.

Should Oliver Gildart’s try have stood?

In the first half, Hull KR had a try ruled out for Oliver Gildart on account of a Ryan Hall knock-on, something that was analysed by the video referee Liam Moore.

However, there are question marks about whether the ball actually touched Hall’s hand, with Gildart’s score potentially being incorrectly ruled out, something that Sky Sports pundit Brian Carney had noted at half-time.

Gildart himself has now reacted, taking to X to post: “Been robbed tonight in Warrington”, accompanied with laughing emojis and attached footage that questioned the decision.

Whilst he’ll only care about the two points and is clearly joking, six or even four points could be critical come the end of the season given how close the race for the League Leaders’ Shield and the top two is.

Hull KR sit top ahead of Wigan by just eight points difference, whilst they boast the same advantage over last night’s rivals Warrington. Given the importance of making the top two and earning a home semi-final, could that disallowed try come back to bite the Robins?

The decision itself was astonishing. We’ve got the video ref saying he can clearly see Hall’s hand making contact with the ball at the same time as the final angle shows the ball clearly coming of the Warrington players arm.
However, the error did not impact on the result, and who’s to say that we would still have won if that try had been given? The match could have followed a totally different course.
I know the officials are human like the rest of us – and without them we wouldn’t have a game, but it would be nice for one of them to stand up now and again and say “I’m sorry – I got that wrong.”

For me the problem is that the VR states that he saw something that didn’t actually happen. I can just about put up with them missing things but not inventing things that didn’t actually happen.

Sorry seems to be the hardest word….
