Hull KR have confirmed the addition of former Leeds Rhinos forward Leon Ruan ahead of the 2025 Super League season. The forward joins on a two-year deal and that ensures he will be with the club until the end of the 2026 campaign at least.
The move comes following Ruan’s successful trial with the club after the 21-year-old linked up with the Robins at the start of pre-season to train under Willie Peters. And, after catching the eye over the winter so far, the Robins have signed him to a permanent deal, with the forward bolstering their pack’s strength in depth.
Ruan joins after being released by the Rhinos at the end of the Super League season. He had just two seasons with Leeds but made 11 appearances and managed to make his mark by scoring a try on his debut. The back-rower did spend time away from Headingley last season, though, with stints coming at Doncaster and Halifax before he joined up with Rovers’ cross city rivals Hull FC for a spell.
He played four games for the Black and Whites to take his Super League appearance tally up to 15 games. He’ll be looking to add to that in the red and white of Hull KR and with the likes of Rhyse Martin, Dean Hadley and middle Jared Waerea-Hargreaves available to learn from, he’s in good company as he strives to carve out a career at the top level.
“I’m over the moon to be signing,” Ruan said after penning a deal. “The opportunity to come here was something I knew I had to grab with both hands and throw myself into.
“The trajectory of the club is something I’d love to be part of and I think this club is the best place to get the best out of me on the pitch.”
Peters said on his latest recruit: “Leon has proven he wants to be a Hull KR player through his actions in training. He can play in the back-row and the middle, and we see him as a player who will hopefully develop over the next two years into being a long-term Super League player.”
