Hull KR have attempted to get the road that their stadium lies on renamed after a club legend.
The road that Craven Park is on is currently called Poorhouse Lane, but this may not be the case for much longer.
The Robins have asked Hull City Council to rename it to ‘Phil Lowe Way’.
It’s typical that it takes ten years before consideration of dedicating a street name after someone’s death. However, a street was named after Roger Millward within those ten years, meaning a precedent has been set.
The Council report states that ‘there is anticipated to be limited impact on organisations other than Hull Kingston Rovers’ – meaning there seems to be a good chance that this could be accepted.
The key argument appears to be the following: ‘The reason for this request is that the road leading up to the club ground has few addresses upon it, save for that of Hull Kingston Rovers and the current name of the road, Poorhouse Lane, is not based upon a solid historical foundation, and does not reflect the character of the area or the aspirations of the local community.’
However, the report also states: ‘Given the antiquity of the name there is potential for objection to a name change. Any objections will be addressed within the period of consultation.’
Who is Hull KR legend Phil Lowe?
Phil Lowe made 418 appearances for the club, scoring 179 tries and winning a number of trophies during his time there, including the 1980-81 Premiership and the 1979-80 Challenge Cup.
With Great Britain, he also won the Ashes in 1970 and the World Cup in 1972.
He died in March of this year, at the age of 74, after spending time with the club as a director, and being manager of England for the Rugby League World Cup in 1995.

As a Hull fc fan I totally support this , Phil Lowe was a legend for the red and white, Great Britain and the Sport, it’s fitting that he gets some recognition in Hull.
