Hull KR release statement after violence erupts in the city

Hull KR

Super League leaders Hull KR have shared a statement ‘strongly condemning’ the scenes in the city centre on Saturday as they sent a message of unity to fans.

Their statement came after cross-city rivals Hull FC shared a similar statement in response to the far-right protests in the city centre that had turned into incidents of violence and vandalism.

A spate of so-called ‘protests’ had been organised across the country, supposedly in response to the tragic killing of three young girls in Southport last Monday.

However, these protests instead simply appeared to serve as an excuse for the far right to be violent and cause damage, fuelled by racism.

Hull KR have now followed Hull FC in condemning the events and taking a stand against “racist, violence and vandalism”.

On Saturday, Hull FC fans had been advised to avoid the city centre when leaving the MKM Stadium due to the ongoing protests.

Hull KR released a statement to their club site and social media condemning the scenes.

“Hull KR strongly condemn the scenes of yesterday and overnight seen in Hull City Centre.

“Our thoughts are with everyone who has been affected, including those local businesses who will no longer be able to trade until the repairs are complete.

“We are so proud of our great City, and what it stands for.

“We remind everyone that Hull KR is open to all, and we will never tolerate racism, violence or vandalism.

“The response of many local residents involved in the clean up this morning is extremely heartwarming and a truer representation of our great people.

“We’d like to thank all the emergency and City wide services who worked to protect our community.”
