Hull KR release Kelepi Tanginoa ahead of Super League switch as Willie Peters explains decision

Hull KR

Hull KR have confirmed that Kelepi Tanginoa has left the club with immediate effect.

Tanginoa will be staying in Super League, though, with the Robins confirming he has taking up a deal with another club.

It’s a move that brings an end to his two-season stay in east Hull, having joined the club from Wakefield Trinity ahead of the 2024 season. He made 59 appearances in red and white and scored 16 tries for the club.

Most of those appearances came off the bench, with Willie Peters using the second-rower’s explosive power to good effect against tired legs.

He leaves the club as a treble winner but he didn’t feature in the Grand Final after falling out of favour late in the year.

Tanginoa is a former Parramatta Eels, North Queensland Cowboys and Manly Sea Eagles player but he has been in Super League since joining Wakefield in 2019. He made 88 appearances for the West Yorkshire side before making the switch to the Robins.

“The last two seasons as a Robin have been so memorable, rewarding and something I’ll cherish forever,” Tanginoa told the Robins. “I’ve loved every bit of it.

“Thank you to Willie, all the staff, the board and to all the boys and the amazing east Hull fans.”

Hull KR head coach explains Kelepi Tanginoa exit

On Tanginoa’s exit, Peters said: “Kelepi is one of the best human beings I’ve come across in rugby league. Kelepi has strong values and morals and is a devoted family man.

“Kelepi came to see me about an opportunity for a longer-term contract with another Super League club to support his family in the latter stages of his career.

“We didn’t want to see Kelepi leave but certainly didn’t want to stand in his way and we have granted his release to take up this new opportunity. I’d like to thank Kelepi, Evelyn and their children for the past two seasons, we wish them all the best for the future.”

Good luck to him, a players career is time limited, he has to do the best by his family. He’s enjoyed a remarkable two years with Rovers, and the club is the better for his time there! I hope he continues to enjoy success in all his endeavours (except when playing Rovers).
