Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has given a general assessment of the club’s recruitment progress and responded to recent reports revolving around off-contract NRL playmaker Adam Reynolds.
After speaking to Serious About Rugby League last week about the future of Tyrone May, Peters has spoken further on the ex-Catalans man as the Robins boss gave a widescale recruitment update.
It has to be said that Hull KR have nailed their recruitment in recent years, especially so under Peters given that you’d be hard-pressed to speak on a signing who has not worked out in some form.
The most recent crop of recruits are led by stars such as Tom Davies and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, both of whom have hit the ground running, whilst others such as Eribe Doro have also proven to be savvy signings when given the opportunity.
With playmaker Tyrone May off contract at the end of the season and having made it clear that he intends to play with his brothers at some point, the question of who will partner Mikey Lewis in the halves for 2026 is a major one.
Recent reports Down Under suggested that it could be Brisbane Broncos star Adam Reynolds with Willie Peters and Hull KR reportedly ‘chasing’ his signature.

When asked about that, Peters played his cards close to his chest but admitted that discussions are constantly ongoing from a recruitment standpoint, explaining: “Look, recruitment, we don’t have anything to report on at this stage so when we do, we’ll be able to give you more detail on certain things.
“We talk about players all the time and how they can improve the squad and there’s a number of players that we speak about but there’s nothing to report on in terms of where we’re at with recruitment.”
The Reynolds reports came in the aftermath of the talks about Tyrone May’s future but Peters went out to bat for the ex-NRL man as he showered him in praise, explaining: “Mikey Lewis last year he was Man of Steel and deserved that Man of Steel award but if you have a look and just look at what Tyrone May did for Mikey. Two and three plays earlier, he’d be in space and when we attack, he’s the main person that’s organizing it all.
“I do think he goes under the radar, but he’d be okay with that. He’s not one that looks for headlines or anything like that, but we value him and certainly value what he brings. He might not be getting the headlines at the moment but we know what he brings in our team and he adds a lot to what we do.”
That said, there’s still a chance that May exits the club with Peters telling Serious About Rugby League last week of the player’s intent to play with his brothers Terrell and Taylan and he reiterated that to the media when quizzed about the club’s recruitment strategy going forward, specifically in regards to when they would decide on May.

Peters explained: “Paul Lakin and I, we discuss recruitment pretty much every day. Every GM of footy or CEO and coach would be speaking about recruitment ongoing, yeah we certainly do.
“We like to plan ahead. It’s worked for us in the past, but there’s ones there once it goes after that November or December time, any player now, like Tyrone, is available for any team.”
Specifically on May and when is the time to either pull the trigger on re-signing him or make a play elsewhere, Peters confirmed: “We’ve had conversations around that. So, at the moment, it’s one of those where the players that are off contract naturally could get snapped up by another side and vice versa. We talk every day and that’s pretty much it.
“At the moment we don’t have anything to openly say but there’s discussions around a lot of players internally but externally which is ongoing.”
Peters did accept “he could be” when asked if May will be at Craven Park in 2026, admitting that they don’t know before reaffirming May’s stance.
He explained: “Tyrone’s openly said that he wants to go back and play with his brothers. He’s said that a number of times. So look, obviously, if you’re waiting for an opportunity to see that opens as a club, we obviously need to move and look at opportunities that pop up because you can’t just wait and then something comes up and Tyrone ends up getting another club and we miss the boat as well.”
May will be playing alongside someone other than Mikey Lewis in the halves on Friday when Hull KR face Wigan with Peters confirming that Lewis will miss out following his groin injury.
