Hull KR recall second loan player in space 24 hours amidst injury issues

Hull KR have announced that they will be recalling Luis Johnson from his loan deal with Castleford Tigers.

The Robins had sent Johnson out on loan to get some more game time as he was far down the pecking order at Craven Park.

He’s since done that becoming a key player in Andy Last’s Castleford side, however he’s now been recalled to his parent club.

The loan rules typically ensure that a player is sent on a minimum two week loan before it effectively becomes a rolling weekly renewal with this being the case for Johnson.

Rovers have opted to not renew that and instead recall him ahead of their Challenge Cup fixture against Championship side Batley Bulldogs.

The Robins head into that match as favourites and it could serve as an opportunity for Willie Peters to get some minutes into the legs of some members of his squad.

He’d earlier spoken to the press stating that the likes of Frankie Halton and Yusuf Aydin would potentially be getting a chance, and now Johnson may do so too.

There is of course another reason why the Robins may have recalled Johnson and that could be to avoid him being cup-tied down the line if Peters’ side were to progress.

Had he featured for Castleford against Hull FC this weekend then Peters would have been unable to call upon him in the latter rounds.

That could also be the case with Connor Barley who Rovers recalled from York Knights last night, ahead of the Knights’ fixture against London Broncos in the Cup.

Rovers announced the return of both players via their social media.

They have however sent young Leo Tennison back out on loan to Cornwall where the youngster has been getting game time in League One.
