Hull KR have provided a major update on the injury status of star man Mikey Lewis after he limped off against Wakefield Trinity.
The reigning Man of Steel was forced from the field last Thursday as Hull KR defeated Wakefield with Lewis sustaining an ankle injury as he powered over the line to score the club’s g0-ahead try.
It was evident immediately that Lewis was in pain, however, he opted to play on after being heavily strapped but he could only manage a further ten minutes.
Making matters worse for Robins fans was the images that followed with Lewis seen on crutches and wearing a boot, prompting many to fear the worst.
We saw similar such scenes for Leeds Rhinos captain Cam Smith at the weekend and the Rhinos have confirmed that their co-captain will miss eight to ten weeks, reinforcing the reason why Hull KR fans should be fearful.
Willie Peters confirmed on Monday that Lewis had an MRI scan and would be having another separate scan, with the results of both giving Rovers a clearer idea on the situation.
Rovers have now confirmed the results of those scans, revealing that Lewis’ injury is “not as severe as first suspected”, providing a huge boost for the club.
A statement read: “Hull KR can provide an injury update on Man of Steel, Mikey Lewis following further scans on his ankle earlier this week.
“Scans on Lewis’ ankle have confirmed the syndesmotic injury sustained against Wakefield Trinity is not as severe as first suspected, with the halfback projected to return in the coming weeks.”
Lewis certainly won’t play tonight as he’s not been named in the squad but he could be in the frame to play next week against St Helens.
Hull KR will take on Salford Red Devils tonight with Danny Richardson expected to replace Lewis, however, question marks still remain on the fitness of Tyrone May who missed last week’s game with a hamstring injury.
