Hull KR name unrecognisable squad for clash with Wigan Warriors as youth dominates

Hull KR face Wigan Warriors on Friday night in the team’s fourth meeting of the season and a repeat of the Challenge Cup semi-final from just two weeks ago in which the Robins edged out Matt Peet’s side in golden point.

Two of the three games this season between the two sides have been draws and then gone to golden point, with each team winning one a piece, whilst the odd game in three came on opening day when the Robins shocked Wigan with a 27-18 win which marked the intent of Willie Peters’ side this season.

Wigan leapfrogged Leigh into second last week whilst Rovers’ win and Warrington’s heavy defeat saw KR jump into fifth, and so a fifth meeting between the teams in the playoffs is not out of the realms of possibility this year.

With KR travelling to Wembley next week it’s already been confirmed by Willie Peters that three academy players will make their debut on Friday night, whilst they had also announced the signing of three young loan players meaning six men would debut at the DW Stadium.

The team news has now been confirmed for Rovers in an anticipated much-changed side.

In an astounding team sheet graphic there isn’t a single player below shirt number 17 that is set to feature meaning the likes of skipper Shaun Kenny-Dowall, star Mikey Lewis and big prop George King don’t feature.

First team squad members that do feature include Dean Hadley who will skipper the side on his return to play, with Peters having emphasised to get some minutes into his legs.

Starting half Rowan Milnes does feature whilst winger Louis Senior is another but the squad features a huge number of academy youngsters and reserves.

Corey Hall returns following his injury and all the promised debutants feature in Lennie Ellis, Leo Tennison, Louix Gorman, Cesar Rouge, Isaac Shaw and Luke Thomas.

As for Wigan they’ve named a strong side with Tyler Dupree set to feature once again having scored on debut last week.

Peet has made one change to his 21-man squad for Friday as Joe Shorrocks is back available following a one-match suspension , replacing Jacob Douglas in the squad.
