Hull KR star Mikey Lewis has certainly had a year to remember.
The half-back racked up 19 tries and 24 try-assists, putting him comfortably top of the rankings across the competition for try contributions, and this was enough to earn him the Steve Prescott MBE Man of Steel award for 2024.
On top of this, he led the Robins to their first Grand Final in the Super League era and was undoubtedly the most impactful player in Super League.
He also hit the headlines recently for his response to Samoa’s Siva Tau while on England duty, with the clip going viral across social media – although his non-starting role during the international period was also the centre of much attention from supporters.
Hull KR Mikey Lewis to take part in major festive event
Now, his year will culminate by taking part in a major event for the city, as he will be switching on the Hull Christmas lights.
Hull KR confirmed: “On Thursday 21 November, Queen Victoria Square will come alive with stunning light and sound installations, with thousands expected to join the crowd.
“Entertainment will get under way at 5.30pm, with DJ Darren Lethem taking the reins as host on Hull City Hall balcony to introduce a host of live performers from State of the Arts Academy.
“Mikey, Lord Mayor and Father Christmas will switch on the lights at 6.45pm, complete with a firework display (weather dependent) over Queen Victoria Square.”
Lord Mayor, Cllr Mark Collinson, said: “This event signals the start of the festive season in Hull and always draws a fantastic crowd.
“I’m really looking forward to joining our special guests and being part of what promises to be a great night.”
This is just another moment that will elevate his fame, and that cements him as one of Hull’s sporting stars of the moment.
