Castleford Tigers have secured the signing of Hull KR winger Lee Kershaw on a two-week loan. Kershaw only joined the Robins in the off-season from London Broncos after impressing last year with the relegated side.
However, he finds himself down the pecking order at Craven Park and with Joe Burgess and Tom Davies taking the first choice wing spots, he has been allowed to leave the club temporarily on loan.
He can expect to make his Castleford debut this weekend then when the Tigers take on St Helens in their first home game of the new season. He’ll likely be involved when Danny McGuire takes his side to Leeds Rhinos next weekend, too, and he’ll certainly be keen to catch the eye of those at Rovers and show what he can do.
The loan comes after Willie Peters named a fully fit squad for this Thursday’s clash with Wakefield Trinity. Castleford, though, are short of outside backs with Will Tate joining Jason Qareqare and Louis Senior in the treatment room with an ankle injury this week.
As such, the addition of Keshaw will help McGuire to name an outside back line up that can compete against St Helens, who demolished Salford Red Devils 82-0 last Saturday.
Kershaw is local to West Yorkshire and started his career at Wakefield Trinity, making his debut in 2019. He made 50 appearances for Trinity before joining London Broncos ahead of the 2024 season.
He featured 23 times for the Broncos in Super League and scored five tries but his performances weren’t enough to save the club from finishing bottom of the table.
He’s not the only player out on loan from Hull KR at present with Danny Richardson currently at Huddersfield Giants on a similar deal, while a number of youngsters are also picking up game time in the lower leagues.
