Hull KR man Dean Hadley has opened up on the injury that almost saw him miss this week’s trip to Las Vegas.
Hadley was one of the star men for the Robins in the World Club Challenge last week, but that win appeared to come at a price, with the forward picking up what looked like a fractured eye socket. His eye had swollen up and he admits that he couldn’t see out of it for the final few minutes of the contest as Rovers got over the line to claim world champions status.
Willie Peters outlined his injury fears after the game and the expectation at the time was that Hadley wouldn’t fly to Nevada due to the issue. However, there was good news to come from the scan, with the results showing that the back-rower’s fracture wasn’t quite as bad as first feared.
And, as the swelling came down, it became clear that Hadley would be able to travel and be a part of KR’s Las Vegas squad. Hadley has now been named in the 21-man squad for the clash with Leeds Rhinos and in his words he’s confident of being able to ‘get on with it’.
“I took a bit of a whack on it and the next minute it all blew up and I couldn’t see out of my eye and that was for five or 10 minutes,” Hadley told Sky Sports. “There was no way I was coming off, I wanted to finish the game and get over the line and I managed to do that.
“I went for the scans and it’s better than what we thought, it’s just a small fracture so I should be able to get on with it.
“For it to blow up as it did, you do worry a little bit and you hope it’s good news but thankfully it was for me. Obviously it’s nothing too serious so I can crack on and get on with it.”
Rovers have named their 21-man squad for Saturday night’s clash at the Allegiant Stadium with Arthur Mourgue dropping out.
