Hull KR half-back Danny Richardson has temporarily joined up with Huddersfield Giants ahead of the start of the new season. Richardson makes the switch to the John Smith’s Stadium on a two-week loan with immediate effect.
The Rovers man will not feature for the Giants in this weekend’s Challenge Cup tie with Hunslet to ensure he won’t be cup-tied on his return to Craven Park. He will be available to feature for Luke Robinson’s side in round one, though, when Warrington Wolves make the journey across the Pennines.
The move comes with Huddersfield struggling for options due to a number of injuries throughout the side. The Giants will start the season without star half-back Adam Clune, while Tui Lolohea missed the club’s defeat to Featherstone Rovers last time around.
The hope is that Lolohea can return to action this week, though, and that comes as a huge boost given the issues the West Yorkshire club are struggling with. New signings George King and Liam Sutcliffe have been ruled out of the season opener as has Aidan McGowan, while Sam Halsall dislocated his elbow while in action for Huddersfield last weekend. Taane Milne is also unavailable at present after flying back to Australia for the birth of his child.
Richardson will be keen to impress in claret and gold, too, as he looks to give Willie Peters some food for thought at Craven Park. The half-back only made last season’s loan permanent at Hull KR a few months ago, but he finds himself rooted behind Mikey Lewis and Tyrone May in the pecking order.
He’ll be looking to use the short-term loan to pick up some much-needed minutes then and put his best foot forward.
