It’s been eight days since Hull Kingston Rovers made it to Wembley for the first time since 2015, a day where they fell way short of the mark as Leeds Rhinos ran up a record score on them, with their win over Wigan Warriors in golden point at Headingley securing them a date with Leigh Leopards.
That was the third meeting between the Robins and the Warriors this season with the spoils now sitting at two wins to KR and just one for Wigan.
All three meetings have been dramatic, particularly the last two with both heading to golden point extra time.
It was Brad Schneider’s flush drop goal that secured their trip to Wembley by a score of 11-10, whereas Wigan won in golden point back in May as a devasting Bevan French line break saw him play in captain Liam Farrell to complete his hattrick and secure the game.
The only game that hasn’t gone to golden point was way back at the opening day of the season live on Channel 4 when Rovers defeated Matt Peet’s men 27-18.
All eyes will be on the team’s clash when they face off on Friday at the DW Stadium especially given the recent memories of that intense semi-final.
Given that Rovers have twice defeated Wigan you’d expect that the teams would be relatively similarly supported by the bookmakers but that’s certainly not the case.
The Robins have been allowed to drift all the way out to a massive 6/1 with Wigan sitting on the other side of the see saw at a crazy price of 1/10.
For those who aren’t acquainted with betting that means you’d have to put ten pounds on the Warriors for the chance to earn one pound profit.
Obviously Rovers will have their eyes on the Challenge Cup Final but they only sit in the playoff places by just two places and two points, highlighting that they need every point they can get.
Some savvy betters might even be tempted to take the draw on for the 80 minute betting market with that priced as big as 28/1, which considering that that result has happened twice already this year is far from the realms of possibility.
Wigan could also be without their captain Liam Farrell who threw a slap at Leigh centre Zak Hardaker and therefore could be facing a ban when the Match Review Panel meet later today.
