Hull KR youngster Zach Fishwick has joined Championship side Hunslet on a short-term loan, the Robins have announced. Fishwick makes the move to Hunslet on an initial two-week loan, with the door seemingly left open for him to extend his time in West Yorkshire should it be necessary.
The forward could make his debut this weekend for the club when the West Yorkshire side travel to Barrow Raiders to get their first season back in the second tier underway. It’s a move that helps Hunslet out on the eve of the campaign, but it’s also a switch that gives Fishwick the chance to pick up some much needed game time.
The 19-year-old finds himself behind a wealth of talent and experience in the pecking order at Craven Park and after completing pre-season under Willie Peters, he’ll be keen to get out and show what he can do.
Fishwick does have first-team experience under his belt, having made his debut for Rovers in 2022. He made seven appearances for the club that season and even managed to get a try after stepping off the bench in a win over Wigan Warriors.
However, his only senior game time since has come away from east Hull with spells on loan at Featherstone Rovers and Bradford Bulls last season yielding a combined total of 10 appearances. He won three of his eight outings for Featherstone before featuring on two occasions for the Bulls.
Hunslet are new to the Championship after winning promotion from League One last season in dramatic fashion, beating Swinton Lions in a relegation/promotion play-off.
“We are delighted to bring in a player of Zack’s quality. He’s big and offers punch in the middle,” head coach Dean Muir told Hunslet’s official site about the Hull KR man.
“He suits our playing style and will be invaluable with us having a number of middles out.”
