Hull KR learn Challenge Cup Round Three opponents after 13-try rout

Hull KR boss Willie Peters Super League

Hull KR have learned who they will face on Friday night in Round Three of the Challenge Cup after a Round Two rout for York Knights.

York Knights have already beaten Hull KR in 2025 with Mark Applegarth’s side defeating the Robins in the Amsterdam Challenge last weekend, the same weekend when the Round Two Challenge Cup fixtures were supposed to take place.

Because York had already committed to face Rovers in Amsterdam, they saw their Challenge Cup tie against Keighley Cougars pushed back to this weekend, meaning Willie Peters’ side were the last Super League team to learn their cup opponents.

It’s now been confirmed that they will play York Knights once again with Hull KR set to head to the LNER Stadium on Friday night after the Knights dispatched Keighley 72-12.

The fixture showcased the difference between a strong Championship side and a strong League One side and only serves to highlight how one-sided some games could be next weekend when Super League teams face lower-league opposition.

Mark Applegarth’s side did not take long to get started at Cougar Park as they ran in their first try within three minutes when Ata Hingano threw a lovely dummy to stroll in untouched.

Levi Edwards scored on the ten-minute mark after a crash ball from former Man of Steel Paul McShane, making it 12-0 before Jesse Dee and Liam Harris added the third and fourth before the 30-minute mark to make it 22-0.

Harris and Dee both bagged a second with Dee scoring on the half-time hooter to give the Knights an insurmountable 34-0 lead at the break.

Just as they did in the first half, York got on the scoresheet after three minutes with Fitzimmons barging through before Santi did the same minutes later to make it 46-0 after 48 minutes.

Keighley did manage to get on the board when Jack Miller reacted quickest to a dropped ball near the York line, however, the Cougars’ joy was overshadowed minutes later when Harry Bowes was sent to the sin bin for a high shot.

Jack Teanby then took York to the half-century mark with his try before Myles Harrison’s conversion took them past that figure. Harrison’s acrobatic finish in the corner came minutes later before Oliver Field scored to take York to 62-6.

Teanby added his second but a smart intercept from Oliver Whitford saw the Cougars get a consolation try to make it 68-12. Oliver Field would then score his second to make it a resounding 72-12.

Hull KR will now travel to the LNER Stadium on Friday night hoping to avenge their pre-season loss and start their Challenge Cup charge to Wembley, as they did in 2023. That fixture will be shown on the Sportsman Rugby League YouTube channel, with details here.
